Installation
The adhesive, floor covering, and area to receive flooring must be maintained at a temperature of 65° to 95° F (18.30° to 35.02° C) and at a relative humidity of 30% to 60% for 72 hours before, during, and after installation. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s guidelines regarding site conditions and installation.
Porous Surfaces: May be used either wet or as a pressure sensitive adhesive over porous surfaces. To use wet, apply adhesive with the recommended trowel and allow to flash off for 5-10 minutes before installing flooring. Lay tile, plank or sheet goods into wet adhesive according to flooring manufacturer’s instructions. Adhesive must transfer to floor product to ensure proper bond. To use as a pressure sensitive adhesive, dry to a tacky state and then install flooring according to flooring manufacturer’s instructions within 3 hours.
Non-Porous Surfaces–Tile & Plank: Apply with the recommended trowel, allow to dry completely from yellow to tan, and lay in the tile or plank according to the flooring manufacturers instructions within 3 hours. The highly aggressive pressure sensitive grip prevents slippage and minimizes seam gaps. Drying time is 45-90 minutes and will vary depending on temperature and humidity. Installation over areas of incomplete drying can result in job failure.
Installation
Floor Preparation
All substrates or surfaces must be level, dry, clean, smooth and structurally sound. They shall be free of any foreign materials that might prevent proper absorption, including dust, dirt, solvent, paint, wax, oil, grease, residual adhesive, adhesive removers, incompatible sealers, fire-retardant chemicals, fungicides, release agents, alkaline salts, excessive carbonation, laitance, mold, mildew, and curing, sealing, hardening or parting compounds.
The substrate or surface and HF525Z must be acclimated in an enclosed building with the HVAC operational between 60-95°F (15-35°C), and between 30-65% relative humidity, for at least 72 hours before, during and after the installation.
Installation Instructions Once base substrate or surface is properly prepped as outlined above, evenly spread HF525Z onto surface using a 3/8” Short Nap Paint Roller. HF525Z can be used as either a one-coat or two-coat system. When used as a two-coat system, allow the first coat to fully cure before applying the second coat perpendicular to the first coat. Cure time is approximately 1-2 hrs per coat under acceptable temperature and humidity conditions.
Installation
Floating Systems:
- Sub floor must be clean, dry, flat and structurally sound. If relative humidity exceeds flooring manufacturer’s guidelines, a 6 mil polythene film (or equivalent) should be used.
- Roll out the Happy Step™ leaving a minimum of 1/8” expansion along the walls. Seams should be butted tight to ensure no gapping (taping the seam is optional).
- Always try to run Happy Step™ perpendicular to the plank floor covering. For LVT tile, Happy Step™ should be run on a 45 degree angle.
- Follow the flooring manufacturer’s guidelines for installation of their specific flooring type.
*Happy Step™ is also suitable for nail/staple down applications for engineered and solid hardwood flooring.
Double Glue Systems
- Sub floor must be clean, dry, flat and structurally sound.
- The use of a pressure-sensitive adhesive, applied with a 1/16”w x 1/32”d x 1/32” spacing notched trowel to ensure evenness of the application, is suggested for attaching cushion to the floor.
- After the adhesive sets up, roll out the Happy Step™ leaving a minimum of 1/8” expansion along the walls. Seams should be butted tight to ensure no gapping.
- Roll the Happy Step™ with a maximum 50 lb. roller at a 45 degree angle to ensure proper adhesion.
- Always try to run Happy Step™ perpendicular to the plank floor covering. For LVT tile, run on a 45 degree angle.
Single Glue Systems
- Sub floor must be clean, dry, flat and structurally sound. If relative humidity exceeds flooring manufacturer’s guidelines, a 6 mil polythene film (or equivalent) should be used.
- Roll out the Happy Step™ leaving a minimum of 1/8” expansion along the walls. Seams should be butted tight to ensure no gapping. Tape together with a 2” wide clear packing tape (do not use thick tapes that might telegraph through).
- Always try to run Happy Step™ perpendicular to the plank floor covering. For LVT tile, run on a 45 degree angle.
